Police arrested Fresno mayoral candidate and medical-marijuana advocate Rick Morse on Sunday for allegedly pepper-spraying a homeless man in his neighborhood, Marc Benjamin of the Fresno Bee reports. Police said Morse and the man have been involved in an ongoing confrontation. MODESTO – The husband and father of a former Stanislaus County sheriff’s detective appeared in court Friday for the first time since the men were arrested last month on suspicion of conspiring to forcibly enter homes and cultivating marijuana. A filed criminal complaint alleges Kari Abbey’s husband, Bennie Taylor, and her father, James Abbey, unlawfully entered rental homes owned by Abbey or her family. A third person from the central San Joaquin Valley is under arrest in Virginia for allegedly trying to smuggle marijuana into that state. David Ray Flowers, 38, of Fresno was arrested with Frederick Michael Sayles, 34, of Selma and Gabriel Hernandez Sepeda II, 38, of Fresno. A federal grand jury has indicted half a dozen Fresno men in an alleged medical marijuana scheme that saw weed shipped to at least eight other states. The U.S. Attorney General, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and IRS made the announcement Friday, the Fresno Bee reports. The indictment is against Fresno men Joseph Edwin Gable, Elgeron Graves, Vincent Graves, Herman Graves, Damone Kelly and Catatea James. Kevin Eugene Spencer of Roseville also was indicted. SANTA CRUZ – Two armed men robbed a medical marijuana dispensary just after 7 p.m. Thursday. Employees inside the dispensary on the 3100 block of Paul Sweet Road reported that two armed men burst into the business wearing clown masks and sporting guns. A failed plot by three Fresno men to grow pot under the guise of medical marijuana users but instead sell it for profit has led to prison sentences for three Massachusetts men who bought the drugs.
