City Council will hear ‘recreational’ cannabis ban
August 31, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
The Fresno City Council will hold a public hearing on a draft ordinance to prohibit adult-use or “recreational” cannabis businesses. The ordinance was prepared after a 4-3 council vote to ban dispensaries and other business types made legal by Proposition 64, the Adult Use of Marijuana Act.
Although the city has portrayed the proposed ban as only addressing “recreational” businesses, but it comes on top of the city’s existing ban on medical cannabis dispensaries. Medical marijuana has been state-legal since the Compassionate Use Act was passed by California voters in 1996, but the city has banned all dispensaries and personal cultivation, most recently in 2014.
