Days before a landmark ballot decision on marijuana in the Golden State, California voters appear to be changing their minds about legalizing pot for recreational use. The Drug Policy Action Committee backing California’s Proposition 19 is spending some of the $1 million it just got from George Soros to target legal pot supporters who are devotees of comedians John Stewart and Stephen Colbert. A 27-year-old Farmersville man died of a gunshot wound to the head Thursday as he was trying to steal marijuana, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department said Saturday. Deputies found Miguel Valencia’s body in the area of Avenue 264 and Road 156, south of Farmersville, shortly after responding to reports of a shooting in a second location. California’s marijuana legalization ballot initiative, Proposition 19, is trailing badly, according to a new Los Angeles Times/USC poll, which found likely voters opposing the measure 51% to 39%. Until recently, the initiative had led in most polls with support from about half of the electorate, John Hoeffel reports in the Los Angeles Times.
